Rush by Maya Banks

My first Maya Banks book and I loved it!

~Rush~

The story of Gabe and Mia.
This relationship is about
Power
Lust
Love
Passion
Sex
Submission
Betrayal
and
Forgiveness

I highly recommend it.

Chapter 5
*****
(Gabe)
He'd been nearly paralyzed by lust.
Not that he hadn't already known, but in that moment,
he'd realized that he had to have her.
There was something about her that he found irresistible.
His fascination with her had reached the point of possession.
. . . And her smile.
When she smiled, she lit up the world around her.
She was . . . captivating.
He wanted Mia, and he'd do whatever it took to possess her.

Chapter 8
********
(Mia)
And then he went deep and held himself there,
slowly lowering his body the rest of the way until
he covered her completely.
His chest heaved and his breaths were hot against her neck.
He was still wedged tightly within her.
He was still hard as a rock even after coming so hard for so long.
God, but he felt so good.
"Can I touch you?" she whispered.
She needed to touch him. She couldn't contain herself no longer.
It was an overwhelming urge she couldn't control
He didn't respond, but he slid his hands from hers, freeing her,
and she took that silent gesture as assent.
Tentatively she slid her hands over his shoulders, gaining more courage
when he didn't object.
She allowed her hands to roam, luxuriating in the postcoital glow.
They slid down his back as far as she could reach and then up again,
stroking and offering him the same caresses he'd given to her.
He made a sound of satisfaction that made her entire body clench.
He groaned in reaction when she squeezed around his cock,
and then he pressed a kiss to her neck just below her ear.
"Beautiful, he whispered. "And mine."
Pleasure consumed her, at his calling her beautiful . . .
. . . She was his.  Truly his.

Entwined with You by Sylvia Day

I bought the book I've known about for months
And fell in love with obsession (again).

I highly recommend Entwined with You by Sylvia Day

Eva Tramell and Gideon Cross.

A relationship so fucked up they couldn't even talk to each other.

Well...not really
***********

Chapter 2

My thighs hit the mattress and I landed on my butt,
falling to my back with Gideon leaning over me.
He hitched me up with an arm banded around my back,
centering me on the bed before he settled atop me.
"Christ, I've missed you."

His skin was hot against my cool flesh, his weight so welcome
after the long nights without him.

"Eva. Let me..." He cupped my face, licking deep into my mouth.
"Let me love you."

"Please," I whispered.

My nails raked his back from shoulder to hips.

I couldn't contain the ferocious swell of emotion that needed release -
the love and the need, the anger and fear. And the pain.
God, the pain. I still felt it keenly.
I wanted to tear into him.
To punish as well as pleasure.
To make him experience some small measure of what I had
when he pushed me away.

I clutched at his hair, too impassioned to be gentle.
My legs wrapped around him, tightening, echoing my need to claim him.
Possess him.

"Gideon."
"I'm here, angel," he breathed, nibbling across my cleavage to my other breast.

And I was surrendering.

Manuscript Found in Accra by Paulo Coelho

With a gust of wind from a Saturday afternoon,
I entered the library and saw this book on the shelf.

I'm grateful.

After reading the last chapter first,
I finished the book from end to beginning.
I highly recommend Manuscript Found in Accra.

***

Only he gives up is defeated. Everyone else is victorious.

***

"And what about enemies?"

Therefore, your enemies are not the adversaries who were put there to test your courage.
They are the cowards who were put there to test your weakness.

The enemy is not the person standing before you, sword in hand.
It is the person standing next to you with a dagger concealed
behind his back.

Beware of anyone who tries to please you all of the time.

We will all have to face many adversaries in our lives,
but the most difficult to defeat will be the ones we fear.

Never repay hatred with hatred, but with justice.

The world does not divide into enemies and friends,
but into the weak and the strong.

***

"Speak to us of the weapons we must use when all is lost."

Where there is loyalty, weapons are of no use.
Loyalty has its roots in respect, and respect is the fruit of Love.

The most destructive of weapons is not the spear or the siege cannon,
which can wound a body and demolish a wall.
The most terrible of all weapons is the word,
which can ruin a life without leaving a trace of blood,
and whose wounds never heal.
(I apologize to those I've wounded)

***

"Why are some people luckier than others?"

Success comes to those who do not waste time comparing
what they are doing with what others are doing;
it enters the house of a person who says,
"I will do my best" every day.

To he who knocks, the door will open.
He who asks will receive.
He who consoles knows that he will be consoled.

A man might say: "I will use my money to sow, plant, harvest,
and fill my granary with grain so that I will lack for nothing."
But when the Unwanted Visitor (Death) arrives,
all the man's efforts will have been in vain.

******************
The mountains change and are pleased:
"It's good not to be the same all the time,"
they say to one another.

Don't Tempt Me by Sylvia Day

I finished reading another Sylvia Day book.
The first pages read were the last...
And they caught me.
I had to know how Simon and Lynette met.

Lynette and Lysette are twins.
Lysette died two years ago - or did she?

Paris, France 1780
He was the sort of man who enslaves a woman
with a single glance.
A glance such as the one he was presently giving to her -
Lynette Baillon.

Simon Quinn.
A man whose polished exterior encases raw masculinity.

Lounged against a fluted column in the Baroness Orlinda's ballroom.
Dressed in somber shades of dark blue and gray.

She was dressed  in white -
Her skirts accented with rich cream-colored bows and silver thread.
All eyes drew toward her pale skin and dark ruby red half mask.

He saw her.
They had never been introduced.

As he approached her, she inhaled sharply.
"Mademoiselle."

Lynette shivered as his sensual voice
Wrapped around her like a lover's embrace.

"Mr. Quinn."

He led her through the crowd and down a hallway,
opening a closed door and pushing her ahead of him into the room.
The door latch clicked into place.

"What game are you playing?"

"I was staring," Lynette admitted.

She suddenly felt naked - but not nearly naked enough.
Reckless.
"You are...very attractive, Mr. Quinn."
Her tongue darted out to wet her dry lips and he froze.

"Do you want to be fucked?"
"Because you are begging for it, witch,
And I am insane enough in this moment to indulge you."

What happens in Chapter 11?

To Tame a Wild Hawk by Lenore Wolfe

I highly recommend this book.

"She dreamed of him...
And he came to her..."

A traumatic event.

"I will not harm you
The Cheyenne will not harm you.
You will be safe."

~Late summer of 1871~
Wyoming.
Saloons
Cowboys.

Upstairs in one the hotels's well-kept rooms -
Amanda Kane.

One hot summer day
She closed her eyes,
a single tear breaks free

"Be careful my child,
the Grandmothers warned.
You are in danger."

He lifted his head as though
in slow motion...
She could hear only her harsh breath.
Hawk.

He wanted her angry.
He wanted her ready.

Smile ^_^ at yourself and at a stranger.

Learn a new language.

Eat a new food...
Yes, I tried headcheese (boiled pig head and jelly)
It tasted like bologna and it would be okay
if I never ate it again.

Attend a local event (some are free)

Watch a movie in a theatre (popcorn!)

Listen to music.
Dance.
Sing.

Laugh - it's the best medicine.

Forgive - kick the dead weight of burden to the curb.

Monster a novel of Frankenstein by Dave Zeltserman

I highly recommend Monster.
Impressive writing.

From the first page to the last page
A dark mob of clouds covered my heart.

Sympathy
Compassion
Anger
Disgust
Sorrow
and the need to Forgive.

This book is about a man and woman
who fell deeply in Love
From the moment their eyes met
- Friedrich Hoffmann and Johanna Klemmen -
Soulmates
murdered too soon by a medical student named
Victor Frankenstein.
The Enemy.

Friedrich's journal (the book) tells
the reader how he opened his eyes
to the first morning light
(after death
as a horribly disfigured Monster
(with Friedrich's brain)
trapped in Hell on earth
who was strapped to a table
smelling of rotted flesh
left alone down in the laboratory
who eventually broke free
 and was fiercely obsessed
with vengeance,
following, waiting...
and watching his Enemy suffer...

Does Friedrich win at the end?
Read the book.

"Salvation will come from forgiveness"

The Ninth Step by Grant Jerkins

The first page caught my attention.
Loved how the chapters weren't so lengthy.
I highly recommend it.
It should be made into a movie!

This book is about an alcoholic veternarian named Helen.

Vodka.
Lots of vodka.
At the bar one night, she saw a man and made a plan.
More vodka and then a dance.
The next morning her body hurt.
There were bite marks on her breasts.
What the hell happened?

What happened?
A hit and run.
A death.
Two deaths (wife and unborn child)
Grief.
Shock.
Bitterness.
No witnesses.
Or were there?

The morning news reported the accident.
Helen watched.
Panic ran to the garage.
Her car was there as usual.
A red Honda...
With front end damage.
Evidence.
NO!
Vomit.
GUILT.
A plan grew from panic: Cover up the crime.

Alcoholic Anonymous.
(These people are insane!)
Helen was about to walk out the door when she was stopped.
Hello new sponsor friend (priest)
(forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Here is my confession)
(PS: be careful who you confess to...)

Helen had been sober for six months now...
Living with guilt and watching.

Edgar was a teacher.
An empty shell since his wife's death.
One day the doorbell rang.
There stood Helen.
"I've come about your wife."

Did she confess?
NO.

The plot thickens and Helen gets away with murder...
How? Read the book.

"Hush little baby, don't say a word. Mama's going to buy you a mockingbird..."

Please Share A Healing Prayer

Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to you
Allow Your healing Hand to heal me
Touch my soul with Your compassion for others
Touch my heart with Your courage and infinite Love for all
Touch my mind with Your Wisdom
And may my mouth always proclaim Your praise
Teach me to reach out to You in all my needs
And help me to lead others to You by my example
Most loving Heart of Jesus
Bring me health in body and spirit  that I may serve You with all my strength
Touch gently this life which you have created, now and forever.
Amen.

Grendel by John Gardner

A book about
hate,
anger,
jealousy,
watching,
listening,
killing,
lonliness,
curiosity,
beauty,
stubborness,
learning,
defeat,
and death in the presence of only the hated ones.

I recommend it.
